A lesson in eating crabs

In every walk in nature one receives far more that he seeks.
A giant kingfisher lands on a branch above the water, so close to where we are sitting that we have a front row seat to the extraordinary prowess of these amazing birds

A steep dive once the prey has been spotted in the river below

and onto the bank to immobilise his prey

He flys up onto a branch

and proceeds to thwack the crab

The legs fall off 1 by 1

With the legs removed, the kingfisher 'softens' up the shell

And turning the crab in his beak, we hear the crack of the shell as he applies pressure..

before shovelling it down his throat

Umm, a little rest

then turns, takes a quick dip in the river to, presumably, wash off the juices and sits drying himself before taking off
