Elephant Sands lodge is on a 16000 ha private conservancy in eastern Botswana, 54km north of Nata. It is 'the' most exceptional location to view wild elephants up close and extremely personal and is reputed to have 95000 resident and migrating elephants move through the conservancy. Accomodations consist of en suite safari tents and chalets (not self catering) and a camp site. The lodge has a lovely pool and a restaurant that provides tasty meals at reasonable prices. (We stopped for breakfast on our way up to kasane and I arranged a private dinner for our anniversary as we are booked for a night's stay on our way back home) What a wonderful surprise we received when checking in on the 25th May

Observing social behaviour in the closest facinity to elephants is something to experience

And a little birding in between - glossy starlings,

Whitebrowed sparrow weaver,

and a rock pigeon stretching after a forage

Mom's and calves rushing in to drink before sunset

Feeling extra special on our special day, so unexpected

Thank you Elephant Sands! Our private candle-lit table, hidden from view next to the pool with unrestricted viewing of the elephants just a few meters away was THE most amazing dining experience but unfortunately John was stricken with a sweaty malarial fever after arriving and I had to eat my meal with haste to get back to him with a bowl of soup. I will most definitely re-do this evening when we're next in the facinity!
